Mothers Are Hidden

by Amanda Mauchly

Mothers are hidden, arent we? So much of what we do is unseen, and we wrestle with the hiddenness. We want to be seen. We want what we do to be noticed, dont we?

On the days when I give and I give and I give. Did anybody notice?”

On the days when I did something fun with the kids and I felt proud. Did anybody see?”

On the days when I taught them that thing and it stuck. Does anybody care?”

Hiddenness isnt bad. Being unseen by man doesnt mean it didnt happen, it doesnt mean it didnt count, it just means it was done in secret. And the beauty of the secret place is that God alone sees.

I feel like its easy in this day and age to remove the hiddenness aspect of motherhood by posting to social media so that we can be seen. I encounter this in my own heart. Ill feel the wrestle to show man that Im a good” mom, showing off that Im doing this fun activity or that with my kids have memorized that Bible verse but deep down Im boasting in my ability to mother. Thankfully Jesus is so gracious with our pride.

Feeling encouraged and edified from others feels good but its not where our value comes from. Our worth comes from what God says about us and Mama, God notices EVERY SINGLE THING that man can not see. He sees in secret and rewards those who love in secret.

Theres a preciousness to hiddenness and Gods praises are our reward.

Does anybody see? Yes, God sees!

Psalm 139 can give such comfort to an unseen Mama. You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.”

Mama, you are not forgotten. Would these words remind you that He SEES you. As you stand at the kitchen sink again, He sees. When you deal with temper tantrums and milk spills, Hes watching. While youre figuring out newborn life and sleepless nights, Hes there. He is familiar with ALL your ways.

You have His attention.

You have His gaze.

You are SEEN by God, Mama.
