I was playing with my 2 yr old and we were making animals out of play dough. I rolled out the play dough to form a snake and started slithering the snake towards her. She pretended to be scared and yelled, then laughed.
She then said “my turn!” She took the play dough snake and started slithering it toward me. I pretended to be afraid and I said “No, snake!” And tried to hit it with my hand.
Her face became serious, she stopped playing and said “Mommy, it’s not real…it’s play dough.”
Many times in life we become afraid and are paralyzed by fear over things that aren’t real. We create scenarios that don’t exist, expect the worst of our situations and think our life will end over situations we can overcome through Christ.
The Bible explains we are to: “…destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ…” (2 Corinthians 10:5, ESV)
It’s our job to say NO to fear and REJECT thoughts that are contrary to God’s promises for us. (Such as the promise of Jeremiah 29:11).
So, I’m not sure what you’re going through or what fear is terrorizing you, but just know they are shadows, paper tigers, and in the words of my daughter: “It’s not real!”
Some verses on fear/anxiety:
“…casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7, ESV)
“…do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”(Philippians 4:6, ESV)
“…fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10, ESV)
